Homeward Bound Outreach

The Food Bank of Yolo County is proud to support more than 70 agencies that provide vital services to residents throughout our community.  In recognition of our community partners, we will shine the spotlight on one of the agencies we support each month in hopes of raising awareness about the many organizations who work diligently to meet the needs of others. During the month of February, we’re pleased to devote our Agency Spotlight to Homeward Bound Outreach (HBO) in Woodland, California.

HBO’s mission is to reach out to those who are in need in the community and also provide religious support to those who are interested. Homeward Bound hopes to spread the message of hope to those who are hurting in a world that may seem hopeless in these struggling times.

HBO delivers food baskets to the elderly, disabled, and low income people during the week. On Saturdays, HBO hosts a potluck dinner for the community that includes a distribution of fresh groceries, clothing and hygienic products. For those that are interested, a short message is ministered before the dinner.

Led by Roy Postell, volunteers from different churches in the community including Church on the Rock, Woodland Family Worship and The Greater Second Baptist Church help run Homeward Bound Outreach.

“The Food Bank of Yolo County is there biggest support in being able to provide food for the people who benefit from HBO’s services,” says Roy. FBYC provides HBO with healthy and nutritious foods so that they in turn can distribute to people in need.

HBO serves about 700 people in Yolo County each month. Through HBO, Roy helped a man in need turn his life around and become successful in life. As Roy tells in 2010, a man came to the HBO distribution that is done at the river on Broderick Boat Ramp. He would came every Saturday and eventually offered to help in order to receive one of the famous HBO tee shirt. Today, this man is married and has even started his own distribution to help others that are in the same situation he was in two years ago.

HBO will be doing several fundraisers throughout the year including car washes and barbeques that are open to the public. Roy and the volunteers have huge plans to expand HBO so that they reach more people in need. They hope to start a bus ministry to provide people in need with transportation, especially during the cold/ rainy seasons.

Homeward Bound Outreach can benefit from increased support from the community. For more information about how you can volunteer or make a donation, please visit their website or contact Roy Postell:
